Dads & Kids Night at the Museum

Calling all dads/male caregivers and kids – we have partnered with Rural Response for Healthy Children to host a night just for you! This program features fun-filled activities, parent discussions, and social time. There will be tours of the Museum and Historic Gaol, artifact and exhibit activities, parent/child social time, healthy snacks, and games. This is a great opportunity to spend time together with your children.

This program is provided free of charge with funding from the Government of Canada.  Please register a week before the program starts. Visit www.rrhc.on.ca to register online.

• Thursday, Sept. 26 (at the Museum): Fantastic Foods – What did people eat in the past? We will look at some interesting, old recipes. Bring your own recipe to share and then make a tasty snack with your dad/male caregiver. Discussion & resources provided on meal plans & tools, snack and lunch ideas, Canada’s Food Guide, recipes, and eating dinner together. Please register by Sept. 25.
• Thursday, Oct. 24 (at the Gaol): Pumpkin Patch – Come to the Huron Historic Gaol for a tour of this amazing building. Then, have fun painting your very own pumpkin to take home. Wear your favourite costume or orange and black! Discussion & resources given on safety. Please register by Oct. 23.
• Thursday, Nov. 28 (at the Museum): Pets of the Past – Explore photos of pets in our collection and talk about our favourite pets of the past. Bring your favourite animal photo, animal toy or stuffy to share with the group. Imagine a mythical or imaginary pet and make it out of craft materials. Discussion & resources given on taking care of a pet, chores, working together as a family to create routines and schedules. Please register by Nov. 27.
• Thursday, Dec. 19 (at the Museum): Sharp-dressed Dads – Fashion and style has changed over the years! Look at men’s styles from different eras in historical photographs. Dads/Male Caregivers & Kids wear your favourite outfit, hat, wacky hair or whatever is your best dressed favourite! Design or build an outfit for your dad/male caregiver and pick from past hairstyles, facial hair, hats, bow ties, and more! Discussion & resources given on self care, wellness and hygiene. Please register by Dec. 18.
