Huron to Hollywood: Blackberry with Curt Lobb & Mark Hussey

The Huron to Hollywood film series celebrates professionals from Huron County working in the film and television industry! Each Huron to Hollywood night includes a screening of their films, followed by a conversation with the creatives about their work and careers! If you love film, have ever wondered how movies are made behind the scenes, or are curious about the careers that exist in film and media, join us at the Museum this spring!
On March 21, we will be screening the acclaimed Canadian film Blackberry, with special guests Curt Lobb, film editor, and Mark Hussey, production supervisor. The movie will start at 6:30 p.m., followed by a live Q&A with Lobb and Hussey at about 8:30 p.m. This event is included with regular museum admission (FREE for Museum Members or with your Huron County Library Card). Pre-registration is not required; seating in the theatre is available on a first-come, first-serve basis within a limited capacity. Films are rated 14A and are not appropriate for younger audiences.
About the film: An international success in 2023, Blackberry presents a sharp comedic point of view on the rise & fall of Waterloo-based tech innovator Research in Motion. The movie’s stars include Jay Baruchel, Glenn Howerton, and Writer/Director Matt Johnson. Post-production took place right here in Huron County, at Goderich’s Faux Pop Studios.

About the creators:
Mark Hussey began creating short films as a teenager, which soon turned into experimenting with computer technology of every kind, producing music videos and event video along with studio and live music production. He’s applied his years of experience, technical wizardry and post-production skills to FauxPop Media and Definitive Film as well as high profile projects for Discovery Channel, Netflix, the UN Refugee Agency, Yahoo, and Paramount Pictures. He was Production Supervisor, Assembly Editor, plus other hats on Blackberry.
Curt Lobb is a Canadian filmmaker who edited Matt Johnson’s ‘BlackBerry’ and Ally Pankiw’s ‘I Used To Be Funny’, two critically acclaimed features that both screened at the SXSW film festival in 2023, the former having its worldwide premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival. Lobb also provided additional editing on the Cody Lightning mockumentary ‘Hey, Viktor!’, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and was on TIFF’s “Canada’s Top 10 Feature Films” list in 2023, along with ‘BlackBerry’.
Lobb lent his editing talents to Caitlin Cronenberg’s directorial debut ‘Humane’, set for release in 2024, as well as the Jay Baruchel directed horror film ‘Random Acts of Violence’, which premiered at the Fantasia film festival in 2019. Some of Lobb’s other past credits include editing and associate producing Evan Morgan’s ‘The Kid Detective’ (2020), which had a theatrical release by Sony Pictures, as well as editing, writing and co-executive producing the comedy series ‘Nirvanna The Band The Show’ (2017-2018), which earned him 4 of his 5 Canadian Screen Awards nominations. Lobb also edited the film ‘Operation Avalanche’ which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2016.
Lobb has edited for two of Vice TV’s biggest documentary series’, their number one rated show ‘Dark Side of the Ring’ (2019-2024) and the Dwayne Johnson produced ‘Tales from the Territories’ (2022). Along with some of his closest collaborators, Lobb runs a Post Production House called FauxPop Station inside a remodeled 115 year old former train station in Goderich, Ontario.
